Piercing After Care

Even a professional piercing can cause problems if proper care is not taken afterwords during the healing process. People's bodies react differently to various materials.

Body piercings should be cleaned 3 times a day until they are fully healed.  A sterile saline solution spray should be used when cleaning your piercing.

Before each cleaning, thouroghly wash your hands with antibacterial soap + warm water. Rinse the pierced area with warm water + use a cotton swab to remove any crust (never use your fingernails for this).  Use the saline solution to fully clean the pierced area along with the jewlery.  Gentely move/rotate the jewlery piece back + forth to allow the saline solution to get inside of the piercing.  Let piercings air dry.  Sterile saline solution can be purchased at your local Walgreens/Rite aid  in the first aid section.

For tongue, lip, marilyn, labret or other mouth piercings we reccomend using listerine mouthwash after everytime you eat or smoke.

Various skin types react differently to piercings + some amount of bleeding, bruising, discoloring, and/or swelling may occur.  Please be patient as the wound heals.  During this process there may also be secretion of a yellow-white fluid; this is normal + a sign of healing.  If uncommon symptoms develop, or you are unsure of anything contact us immediately.

Leave that bandage alone!  Your bandage is covering your tattoo in order to keep airborne bacteria from infecting your tattoo, which should be treated as an open wound. A fresh tattoo is a breeding ground for bacteria + infection + your bandage should be left on for 2 - 4 hours.  Before removing  your  bandage, wash your hands with an antibacterial soap.

We reccommend washing your tattoo with Aquapor fragrence free wash (avaliable at your local Walgreens or Rite Aid located in the baby care isle.), or any mild fragrence free liquid soap.  Wash your tattoo gently with your hand + warm water + never use a washcloth or anything abrasive to clean your fresh tattoo.

If the bandage is "stuck" to your tattoo DO NOT rip it off, simply put it under running warm water and let the bandage fall of naturally.  warm water will open up the pores of your skin + allow for a cleaner tattoo.  Wash your tattoo until all of  the plasma build up has been removed, by gently using your finger tips.  This will reduce the risk of scabbing + therfore a faster healing process.

After washing the tattoo, run cool water over the tattoo (which will close your pores), + let air dry or gently pat your tattoo with a clean paper towel.  Wash your tattoo 2-3 times daily, followed by a VERY thin coat of Aquapor ointment once the tattoo has air dryed. (Aquapor ointment can be  purchased at your local Walgreens or Rite aid in the first aid isle).

Apply the thin layer of Aquapor +  gently massage into skin.  Always wash your tattoo before applying Aquapor as you want to have a clean surface to apply the Aquapor, instead of applying over old ointment.  Follow this procedure for the first 3-4 days  of  healing your new tattoo.  After a full 3-4 days you can switch to a fragrance free lotion such as Lubriderm, + apply as needed.

Showering + bathing  - Do not soak the tattoo in any body of water  (i.e bath, pool, hot tub, jacuzzi, etc).  It is also very important not to go swimming  in any body of water for the first 2-3 weeks.  Showering is fine as long as the tattoo is not directly in the water stream. Scabbing + peeling  After a few days you may notice some peeling + possibly a little scabbing forming on the tattoo.  This is completely normal + there is no neEd for panic.  You may also start to itch (just like a sunBurn when it begins to heal).

DO NOT SCRATCH, SLAP, OR PICK  at the tattoo for any reason!  Re-apply the Lubriderm lotion as needed. Protection from the sun  Even after your tattoo has fully healed, you will always want to protect it from the sun's ultraviolet rays, which can cause fading of the tattoo.  Before spending a lot of time in the sun, protectyour tattoo with a minimum of SPF 30 sunblock. This will assure to keep the black ink dark + the colors vibrant + bright for many years to come.

Signs of infection  If for any reason you doubt your tattoo healing process, do not hesitate to contact us immediiately.  If you experience excessive swelling  or redness, rash, or signs of infection please consult your local physican immediately.
